gardening wuss

image

My garden is a mess of weedy winter neglect. I’m a bit of a gardening wuss in that I prefer to garden in nice weather - in winter I pretty much ignore the garden, apart from a little vege harvesting and pruning here and there.

I had half a truck load of bark mulch delivered the other day, and I’m keen to get into reinvigorating (err...weeding) the garden - but the weather here in the Manawatu is either gale force winds, sleety rain, or sunny but chilly/frosty. In short, spring has not sprung in Palmerston North.

Who am I kidding though? I have so much (paid) work to do that I’ll be in front of the computer until my eyes bleed for the next few days. Note to self:: do not take on this amount of work in 2008. It’s been a tough winter, folks.

This Woody-Click person lives on my mantelpiece and is my little gardening idol - he makes me happy with his tiny carrots and weeny lettuces. Ostensibly, I got him for Willoughby for Christmas but seeing as I don’t let him play with it lest he lose the pieces - I think perhaps I bought it for myself. Hee. I’m so immature - I shouldn’t be allowed to be in charge of small children.

Anyway - there are daffodils and hyacinths and red poppies flowering in the garden. The star Magnolia is blooming. Two more weeks of hard work to get through and then I have some respite for a couple of weeks (including the school holidays - yaay!) until the next lot...and who knows? maybe in two weeks the ground will have warmed up enough for this gardening-wuss to get her trowel out?

I’m exactly the same. I’ve been admiring the tops of shrubs because I’m too scared to look at the ground and the weeds. Maybe this weekend if it’s warm…

I’ve been garden(weed)ing too. It’s good to be digging around with the worms in the dirt. I like it. However, I really do not like the 8,000 word essay I haven’t started and the 19 essays that need marking by yesterday. Ho-hum. Time for a digressive, procrastinating cup of tea. (I’m trying really hard not to say I suck).

I see, absolutely, why you would want those Woody Clicks for yourself. First it’s the name - Woody Click. come on. I find the little person’s rather charming.

I hope your day is going okay.

You can do it!!

I can’t WAIT until I have a place where a proper garden is even possible… we have a tiny little vege patch stuck in the corner and all our little brocolli plants are bent over sideways trying to get the most out of the sun. Poor things.

Anyway, bring on the warm gardening weather!!

With a 40,000 word thesis deadline starting to breathe heavily down my neck in the form of my two supervisors, I’ve discovered my inner procrastinator.

Last week I was hit by spring fever and gardened and weeded and re-potted native seedlings and felt HAPPY and now I just feel SAD and a whole lot of other YUKKY adjectives ‘cause I shouldda been doing my work.

I’m hoping to hop back in the work saddle tomorrow. Unfortunately true grit rather than hope is what will make it happen.

The weather isn’t the problem here so much (except yesterday it’s been quite nice), but rather the huge piles of ‘other stuff’ to be done. And also the huge not knowing what to plant thing too. is there a guide online somewhere that tells me what to plant when? That would be awesome.
Hope the little one is feeling a bit better! x
