newest addition to quirky doll family
I often do a quick peruse of the toys in opshops - this is where I find a lot of my quirky dolls. Toys in opshops are usually hideous plastic mountains of broken McDonalds toys, so I do have to be in a certain squirrelly mood to tackle it - but it usually pays off. The other day I found a sweet little wooden ladybird and a tiny knitted bee. I also sometimes buy vintage handmade dolls clothes - just because my heart hurts at the way some mother in the past has worked on such a tiny scale to make clothes for her child’s doll - they are usually made of wonderful old fabrics and laces, too.
One of my ideas is to start with pieces of these doll’s clothes I’ve found and work backwards, creating creatures to fit the old dresses.
Here is my newest quirky doll - a tiny beaded chap - I’m guessing he’s African? Is that what you think? So little, so much work and so much charm.
