:poems up + autumnal:

image

My poems are up on Lumiere. (Big thank you, Lumiere, for publishing me.) The first one ‘Spell For Cold Weather’ is partially about longing for winter in an unusually hot autumn. I wrote it a long time ago, but that could be this autumn which just seems to carry on being sunny and bright...although thanks to the cooler temperatures of Taupo and my parent’s giant oak tree - I did get a taste of autumnal-ness whilst there. I do love kicking leaves.

(I remember learning the word ‘autumnal’ in my first year of university - then I went to the park and ran around kicking leaves saying “It’s so autumnal! It’s so autumnal!” Yes, I know I’m a geek.)

Do Americans use the word ‘autumnal’?

I also love the words sassafras, epiphany and the phrase “twiggy pea sticks”.

Hey, congratulations. Your poems are great. I love Ten Answers (had great fun guessing the questions).

I’m quite taken with the word ‘swashbuckling’ at the moment. Although I do also enjoy saying ‘curiouser and curiouser’...in a funny voice, of course.

Hi Helen,
This has nothing to do with your blog except as a way of tracking you down without using the telephone.... I’m in a bit of a hurry trying to contact people in as short a time as possible! And I seem to have misplaced your email address and you have dislodged yourself from facebook it seems.

....
anyway, the point is…

Ruby turns one tomorrow (Thursday 1 may) and to celebrate we have decided to get together for afternoon tea at our house.

From 2pm onwards.

Please come if you can.

If you can come, could you bring something to share for afternoon tea???

Love and Kisses,

Madz, Simon, Hila, Mikah and Ruby.

I have not heard the word autumnal here.  I do like the word very much and plan on introducing it.

I enjoyed your poems very much.  I will read them again and again.
