:simple collage:

Here are some simple collages I’ve made recently. I’ve been doing collage for years now, and some of you will be familiar with the collaged cards I make for craft fairs. When I look back on collage I did some years back, now they look horribly cramped, crowded and over-done to me.

My cards are made with mostly vintage images from old books, maps, paper ephemera...but recently I set myself a new challenge - to work with images cut from magazines, mostly photographs and to try to make compelling images using only two layers/images.

I’m enjoying playing with the idea and trying to make odd juxtapositions that somehow end up cohesive.

Those collages are so cool! I do collage cards too and I know what you mean about having too much on them. I imagine some of the recipients just go “What the ...?”

I especially love the TV one. It’s a 60s or 70s TV, eh, and is it upside down? It might not be, but for some reason, to me, it looks like it is upside down. And then the beautiful natural background - I don’t know, for some reason that really resonates with me.

As Bryan W would say - “Nice work!”

i really like both the ‘busy’ collages, and the simpler. i’ve never tried it myself, but you’ve inspired me to!

Such a nice distraction from grading annotated bibliographies - my eyes are all a-fuzz from it.

I too, used to go way over on the collage. Sometimes less is more right? I do love your collage work. You manage to make them say something - convey a mood or an emotion. I like that.

Okay two to go. deep breath. plunge.

I’m not a huge fan of television, but I love love love that last one!

collages are great fun, very relaxing and something down-to-earth about the cutting and pasting. Always takes me back to childhood and I think that helps me come up with things I wouldn’t otherwise think of. these are great.
