it was all yellow
First, she got to lie on a picnic blanket in the sun next to a yellow house with canna lillies blazing out front
&
then she went home and baked a cake out of a sense of obligation.
Mothers do that.
She would rather have been reading.
It was a carrot cake covered with calendula petals.
She gets a kick out of eating flowers.
