simple knitteds

I’ve been trying to finish off some of my many half-finished/abandoned/forgotten projects lately. Here are some simple knitteds I’ve made. (I suffered greatly modeling this stuff in the 28 degree humidity we are experiencing lately - but hey, I’m willing to suffer for my art, and for your viewing pleasure.)

I buy most of my wool from op-shops - and the joy but also downside of that - is that I often find a ball or two of some exciting yarn and instantly want to see what it knits up like, so I’ll cast on some little scarf or hat or band or fingerless gloves...then just as quickly stow it in the bottom of my knitting basket and pick up something else. Naughty short attention span me. I’m trying REALLY hard to curb this, and to finish one project before I begin the next. (You have to do something 30 times before it becomes a habit, right? No problem - I probably have that many half-finished projects dotted around. Seriously.)

Here are a headband made from recycled sari yarn, knitted together with a beautiful hand-dyed silk yarn, with a super-long, super-skinny scarf to ‘match’ made from just the purple silk. I love super-long, super-skinny scarves lately - they are almost more like necklaces. Plus you only need one ball to make one and it can be done in one or two sessions.

Here is a hat made for Fraser, although I spared him the job of modeling it. Made from a ball of muted rainbow coloured novelty yarn and a thick grey double-knit wool, plus a button-up scarf which I knitted from one ball of beautiful green Nero Italian wool. My favourite wool - I actually paid retail for it. *gasp*

An ongoing project I was hoping to finish in time for winter, but now I’m not so sure is my “jersey of zen” - given that I haven’t even finished the back yet and still have the front and sleeves to go - it might be a winter 2009 jersey.  Yeek.

beautiful, helen! i can really relate to having lots of small unfinished projects lying around. i love your use of bright and funky yarns. that headband is excellent! great idea to blend the sari yarn with silk for softness.

Those projects are lovely! I especially like the button scarf.  I can totally relate to having too many knitting projects on the go - yesterday I cast on another hat, despite having at least 3 (that I can recall) other knitting projects in my knitting bag.

looking good there, I don’t know how you manage to knit in the is heat, and to then model the knitwear!

‘suffering for your art’...lolsmile
