:small corners:

image

There are a lot of things I don’t like about my house - like the icky 1980s apricot bathroom, the way the dining room is too small to have friends over, the way you enter our house through the laundry ("Welcome fair guest! Please avert your eyes from the soaking poo-stained nappies and the muddy playclothes")...so when we are on a limited income and can’t yet afford to change the big structural things - it’s important to do what I can, and have little corners which please the eye.

Here’s a couple of photos of new ‘corners’ lately. Above is my laundry wall - it’s what you see as you enter our house.

The swan and ‘Goya Dusting Powder’ box below belonged to my maternal grandmother. For complex reasons I won’t go into - I have never really known my grandmothers - but I’ve been thinking a lot about grandmothers lately and writing some poems, too. I’ve never been much of a person to have lots of family photographs on walls etc - but I’m thinking of changing that and going looking for some photographs of grandparents and older family. Family heritage is interesting, difficult and ultimately, important, I think. So anyway - swan and powder box were once hers and now grace the corner of my bedroom - thanks, Peg!

When I came to your house I didn’t even notice the laundry - I noticed all your cool bits and pieces and how beautiful your house was!

i appreciate the dutch shoes. bright red on white.  lovely.
I am sure that you guys are making the most of what you’ve got, keep decorating those corners! real style happens within constraints anyway.

like how street fashion blogs are far more interesting than the limitless budgets of runway.

I love the look of the red on the white wall.  And the things you have hung up are all quite different and yet go together very well.

My nana also had a swan like that smile

I know - those Crown Lynn swans are the best, aye?

I should point out, that the laundry is actually a minty-colour...hard to see here thoough.

Thanks for all the lovely comments, folks.

I’m jealous of your swan - almost bought one of the new reproduction ones when I was in New Zealand but it wasn’t the same as a real one. And I adore the colour of your bedroom walls!
