spring flowers
Yesterday at the supermarket I bought two bunches of spring flowers for $6. I sat them on top of Magnus’s pram, but as I strode home from the shops deep in thought, one bunch must have tumbled off because when I got home there was only one bunch left.
At first I was very peeved for ‘losing’ them and ‘wasting’ $3...but then I imagined walking along and discovering a bunch of spring flowers on the ground bound up with rubber bands...how nice would that be? I know if I found a bunch of spring flowers on the path, it would make my morning. So I decided to be more philosophical about it and think of it as a little present to a stranger.
So, dear person who happened upon the flowers I dropped, I hope you enjoyed them very much and they made you smile.
Every year the spring flowers around amaze me with their almost obnoxious bright colours and their ability to cheer everyone up and remind them that spring is on the way.
We went to the park on the weekend and there was a wonderful yellow and orange poppy bed there:
I love the way poppies are all hairy, how the poppy bed was such a lovely green tangle of gangly stalks and how they emerge from their buds all wrinkled like screwed up fabric:
Here’s a bright yellow Palmerston North poppy for my dear friend Poppyshock:
