:stripy sock photo of the week:

image

This week is not so much about the aesthetics of the photo - more, I was thinking how the times in the day when I notice my own feet the most is when I’m striding around the streets pushing Magnus in his buggy. So this is a shot of a ‘mama-eye-view’ photo of that - you can see a glimpse of stripy stocking, and there is Magnus trying to hand back his chocolate muffin - wanting something different to eat. I’m ignoring him because I hate it when my children are fuss-pots about food. I bet this point-of-view is familiar to many of you with small kids.

A passer-by said to me the other day: “He must be nearly big enough to walk instead of being pushed, isn’t he?” (Don’t you love the way complete strangers feel it’s their responsibility to opine on your parenting decisions when you are out in public?) And I smiled lamely back. He does walk sometimes, on short journeys, but if he were to walk on our longer jaunts - I wouldn’t get any exercise because of the dawdling speed he goes at and “a quick trip to the shops” would take all day. Anyway, I digress.

And here is a better shot of this day’s stripy socks. My sister-in-law sent these tights to me from Amsterdam many years ago now and they are still going strong. They must make tights much better in Europe than they do here?

ah yes, i love those strangers. i used to be one of them, in nyc in particular, thinking the kids were marshmallows to be pushed around at 6. But i would be locking 5 year old otto in his pushchair if he lived there, and I’m always saying to Gus, please, stay in your seat, I want to get to the dairy before sundown while he shrieks WALK! WALK! all the way down the street. Those same strangers will think you are a terrible mother for your kids wandering near the curb and picking up dog poo, and are probably punching the CYFS number into their speed dial for other suburban criminals as i write…

Stand up to those pushy people. I hate when people do that! Granted I don’t have any childrens, I only have Tibbys. wink

ohhh strangers how I adore hearing your ideals on parenting. I’ve had many a stranger, usually old ladies, tell me what Aesop needs and when you was a tiny baby also what he was asking for.
Uusually its some little old biddy telling me he needs a good smack though, I’ve had that one a few times. What on earth do you say that?
Aesop is the same as Magnus though, quite often still in his buggy. It’s his peferred method of transport and, as you say, it cuts the travel time in three. I do hope he decides he wants to walk one day though.
