::sunflowers::
I know that sunflowers are a bit, well, obvious as an aesthetic icon - and sunflower imagery is so over-used it’s hard to really SEE a sunflower anymore. And I know that photographs of flowers are usually only of interest to gardeners....BUT…
I grew these puppies! From tiny seeds. I watched them grow from their first seed splitting tendril, to their full blooming glory - and I’ll watch them as they lose their petals and the birds begin to eat their seeds, until their stalks are dry and hollow and there is nothing more to be done than pull them out and compost them.
For that reason - here are some photographs of our sunflowers. (I always tell people I grow them for the children - because kids get a kick out of giant flowers that are many feet taller than they are - but like a lot of things I do for the kids - I think I grow them because I like their show-offy, big impact, ta-da! nature.)
