about
Who am I?
I'm Helen.
I'm 32. I have two sons, Willoughby and Magnus.
I live in Palmerston North, New Zealand.
I am a Buddhist, albeit a lazy one.
I think creativity is vital and enhances daily life immeasurably.
I find motherhood both challenging and rewarding, but mostly challenging.
I am interested in how creative mothers make time to do their thing.
I am also interested in how any other creative person does their thing.
You could say I'm obsessed with creative processes.
To this end, I am a dedicated journaler, both online and on paper.
I love The Smiths, stripy socks, drinking tea, and wearing quirky skirts.
I am a writer, a teacher, a photographer, a crafty girl. Some days I think I'm crappy at all of these things, sometimes I think I'm a genius.
I am interested in you and how you get by in this world. You can contact me here.
Why stripy socks?
I have been wearing stripy socks for nearly 30 years (with a brief hiatus during my Goth phase when all my socks were black.) Being a 70s kid, knee-high striped socks were very trendy in the playground and somehow, I never grew out of it.
I love stripy socks because they are funky, slightly silly and best of all..they always fit.
I have 28 pairs of stripy socks in every imaginable length and hue. My stripy sock habit is self-supporting in that all my friends know that I love them, so I haven't had to pay for a pair for about three years! They just seem to come my way these days.
Check out my gallery of stripy sock wearers. Please e-mail me photos of yourself wearing stripy socks. (So that I don't end up with hundreds of pictures of just feet - if possible, try to get your whole body in the shot. I appreciate this may involve some tricky yoga moves or karma sutra postures - but do your best.)
